3 // Central Saint Martins Degree Shows

This Tuesday I was fortunate enough to attend the private view of the Central Saint Martins degree show, Show 2 (Inspired by the RCA I see). This year marks a special year for the graduates as they are the first group to have just attended the Kings Cross campus. The year my class graduated was the final round of students to make their way completely through the William Lethaby Building on Southampton Row and Red Lion Square. This also means I graduated three years ago. Blimey – I could have done a second degree by now.

Upon entering the new building it’s lovely to see that they have a homage to their past sites on the walls in casts of the signage that was used around the beautiful old buildings.

Arriving it was lovely to see some old friends and brilliant tutors who I haven’t seen in a good while, and we headed up to the Graphics studios to see their work. Overall it was a really good show, the quality of the work was high as usual and everyone was enjoying themselves which they should be after all the hard work that goes into creating all of this crazy stuff.

Below are some of my favourite bits from the show.

The origami project totally reminded me of the 1000 Wishes project I worked on with Christina.

^ I loved this – I have searched high and low for the name of the person who worked on this as I didn’t write it down and can’t find them… If anyone knows who the designer is let me know please.

^ Advertising had decided to present their work using the inspiration of Mad Men which was a great idea which I was surprised the previous years hadn’t done.

^ This was really stunning and probably one of my favourite bits I saw from the evening. Kensuke Nakata was creating these rose petals out of ceramics for the BA Ceramic Design show, the whole evening he sat there creating them, all unique. They were beautiful and it say’s in the show guide that if the piece sells 50% of the profits will go to Aid for Japan. His work can be found here – www.kensukenakata.com

If you’re planning on heading down this weekend keep an eye out for these bits, the show is on till Sunday the 22nd June.

God speed and good luck to all of this years graduates. If anyone else went what did you think of the show? Did I miss anything?
