Last year I was given a lovely brief to work on some branding for Henki, a sustainable block printed textile company that’s
in the pipeworks by the amazing Josephine Laakso. When we spoke initially I loved how Josephine drew a lot of inspiration
for her patterns from Nordic creation stories such as the Kalevala from Finland.
When working on the logo I researched more deeply into Finnish culture and remembered the traditional straw himmeli’s
that you will find all over the country. The meaning of the word himmeli can be translated to sky/heaven and I loved how
that could be linked to the ideas of creation. I designed a series of icons using them as inspiration, a main logo for the
brand and each print collection could have it’s own icon and the possibilities for new icons is endless.
